Anxiety symptoms need to be controlled by medication if a person is prone to experiencing anxiety in one form or another to prevent serious attacks. Alcohol RestrictionsWhen under anxiety medications a person should be careful not to consume alcohol since this can cause a person to feel mentally inept and drowsy. However, one shouldn't feel belittled when taking anti anxiety medication since there is no doubt they will benefit by calming their symptoms. Even if anti anxiety medications do not correct underlying causes of the symptoms they are nevertheless the best method of healing and helping the patient focus more positively and stay relaxed. While anti anxiety medication does not cure the illness it will provide relief from the symptoms. Rather than overcoming the root cause of anxiety the goal of the medication is to mask the symptoms. Azaspirones, benzodiazepines, beta blockers, tricyclic antidepressants, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin-nonrepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) and anti-convulsants are the many different anti anxiety medications. Generalized anxiety disorders are treated very effectively by a type of anti anxiety medication known as azaspirones which works slowly but steadily over a period of two to fours weeks and has no known side effects. In addition, since it doesn't cause sedations or memory and balance problems it doesn't potentate alcohol. For the control of panic disorders, generalized anxiety disorders and social phobias; benzodiazepines are more effective and quick acting but a patient will feel more drowsy. Withdrawal symptoms can occur if a patient discontinues these medications so when using anti anxiety medication it is best to work closely with your doctor. To calm anxiety symptoms such as shaking, palpitations and sweating beta blockers can be used since they lessen the effect of adrenaline. These medicines should always be used with consultation from a doctor since a patients blood pressure could be reduced and the heartbeat could slow down. These forms of anti anxiety medication are quick acting and don't make the patient Dependant on them. These medicines shouldn't be used along with other preexisting medical problems including asthma, congestive heart failure, diabetes and vascular diseases.
