Useful Information and Types of Anxiety Pills

For many people anxiety is a problem even if they don't know they suffer from anxiety. Anxiety is treated in two ways: certain types of psychotherapy and anxiety pills. To treat anxiety a combination of anxiety pills and psychotherapy are generally used. You quality of life can increase with the results of using a combination of pills and psychotherapy.

Types of Anxiety Pills

MAOIs or monoamine oxidase inhibitors and SSRIs or serotonin reuptake inhibitors are the two basic types of anxiety pills. Benzodiazepines and beta-blockers are a couple of other types that are not used as often.

For anxiety disorders MAOIs are often prescribed even though they are classified as antidepressants. Your monoamine neurotransmitters are not allowed to break down which allows these anxiety pills to work. Depression and anxiety is then helped by the increase in serotonin, melatonin and adrenaline levels.

Research has shown that low levels of serotonin are present in individuals who suffer from anxiety and depression. By increasing the levels of certain naturally occurring compounds in the body, anxiety pills like MAOIs help treat anxiety which helps level out the effects of anxiety and depression.

Increasing the levels of serotonin occurs because SSRIs specifically work with your. To metabolize stress hormones serotonin is required. Certain levels of serotonin are needed by your body to get rid of the hormones that produce anxiety and stress. Those who suffer from anxiety and depression have been shown to have low levels of serotonin. As a method of increasing the levels of serotonin in the body many pills contain SSRIs.

There are usually not many, if any, side effects with anxiety pills. Pills can help quite a bit for most anxiety sufferers. From person to person the effectiveness of anxiety pills will differ; this is why you should discuss the treatment options with your doctor. Before you find the right one for your specific condition you may have to try a couple of different varieties of anxiety pills.

You can find the right pills for your specific situation by working with your physician. Anxiety pills can be of great benefit to someone suffering from anxiety especially when used along with behavioral therapy. Compared to five years ago there are better anxiety pills available today. The first step to ridding yourself of the worst effects of anxiety is to work with your doctor or therapist to determine the best course of treatment.
