Overcoming Anxiety (Home) > Depression Help > Menopause and Depression Menopause and Depression are Inter RelatedIf you thought that depression is always psychological and only because of some sad incident in family, you must know that depression is also possible when there is hormonal imbalance in the body. Menopause and depression are thus closely related. When female undergoes menopause, there may be chances of her to get depressed. Women are twice as likely to be affected by depression as men, and menopause and depression have often been linked. Age after 38-40 or midlife is often considered a significant period of increased depression for women due to a combination of factors. Definitely stress, tension etc also lead to depression, but there are also hormonal swings during this period of female's life. Due to chemical changes taking place there may be chances of depression. Still, menopause is often said to be a time at which women are more likely to be depressed than at any other stage of life including adolescence. There is no complete set of data as to the direct cause of this problem, so there are only possibilities to consider when discussing menopause and depression on the clinical level. The periods mentioned above are also often associated with a variance in the estrogen levels. This could, possibly, affect the levels of brain chemical and alter them to one side or the other which could create a greater intolerance to the life events that coincide with the chemical changes. This, in turn, could be closely related to the cause of menopause and depression as linked. You have one life and have one birth, for the first and last time you are on this earth. So live life with joy and mirth. You cannot afford to waste this beautiful gift of life. Life is very precious. Negative thoughts of worthlessness, helplessness, and passivity to life situations, and the feelings of ending the pain by ceasing to live are all part of major depression. You must never get depressed. Be optimistic about life. Life will give you. Be with positive people. You must be able to do self- help. This is because only you are responsible for your own depression. You are emotionally weak to get carried away by the depressive thoughts. Thus only you can help yourself. Give yourself a chance. Life is a binge. If you want a cake and cut it too then bake two. You solely are responsible for your life. So be positive. If you are depressed with what you don't have, think of the people who are less fortunate to live long life and died at a very young age. So help yourself. The prerequisite for getting better is your willingness to give life a chance. Unless you are willing to help yourself, efforts by other supporters will be of little use. No matter how hard life is getting for you, be open to let yourself and others give help. Loneliness also leads to depression. So be around good and loving fiends. Depression is aggravated much by being alone. Depression self help works well when, you go out with others or let others involve you in their company/life activities. If you do not feel like doing something or doing it differently, openly ask your caring companions. Tell them that you trust them but simply cannot follow their demands. You may see a psychologist or a gynecologist and get proper medication. This is really important. You must get the solution rather than brooding. Have a different look out for life and live the life to the fullest. You must ask for help when- ever needed. You may ask your family and friends to help. You must also practice yoga and meditation as a good source of peace.
