Postpartum Depression Reasons

When there are some reasons, which leads to depression, the reasons must be found out. The postpartum depression is known in medical terms as the peripartum depression, and as per the definition, it refers to the unexplained depression bouts that affect a new mother. You would expect that the birth of a baby would make the mother (and father) ecstatic with joy. Depression has no place here. However, there are many times when the new mother is totally overwhelmed by a devastating depression. And this is known as postpartum depression.

But have you ever thought why this thing happens? This is mainly because of hormonal imbalance. The body of the woman during the pregnancy is packed with hormones, which help in preparing her body for the baby's development and survival. The moment the baby is born and the placenta is expelled, the hormones will stop. Due to sudden changes in the hormonal levels, there is this kind of a problem.

Thyroid may also be one of the reasons. Medical research studies point at the thyroid gland as one of the main players in this development. Thankfully, the affliction can be totally reversed simply by including medication to balance the thyroid dysfunction. This is easily reversed and totally curable. Hence, if the postpartum depression is caused by a thyroid problem, this can be addressed immediately with total success.

There are other causes that can be triggers for postpartum depression. A lot of irritation and business creeps in when a new baby is born, this may also be a reason of postpartum depression. Lack of sleep is also one of the reasons.

Some of the scariest things that can happen is the loss of hair in women. Some research studies have pointed in this direction (i.e. that hair loss is the biggest trigger for depression).

Here, the best medication is a slow hormone-replacement-therapy (HRT) which will bring back the balance without affects the child's well being. It was observed that once the hormone balance is achieved, all the depression symptoms disappear altogether. If you find yourself (or anyone of your known people) suffering from postpartum depression, then seek immediate medical attention. Depression is a disease as any other; do not hesitate to take her to a doctor for an early treatment.

Yoga also helps in the release of the cortisone hormone, which most of the time acts as an anti depression agent. As and when this hormone is produced, the effects of depression are almost always reversed. You have to believe and have trust on this. You will definitely get fruitful results. Many people have already benefited from yoga as a means to live happily as it works as an anti depression agent. This is because yoga relaxes the body and mind and hence promotes good health both mentally and physically. You must make it a point to do it on regular basis to get the best results. You must involve it in your regular routine life.

Have you heard of Anti Depression Medication? To alleviate depressive symptoms, there are such medications available. There are certain drugs, which are to be taken with water and some, which are for chewing. Depending on your preference, your doctor will be able to prescribe the correct medication for your particular type of depression, whether mild or severe. But you must not rely on anyone's prescription. It must be only the doctor to tell you about the medicines. You must follow only the doctor's instructions in this case.
