Behavioural Models for Panic Disorder
Early behavioural explanation of panic focused on the role of classical or Pavlovian conditioning in PD. Generally, these models involve the pairing of physiological sensations (conditioned stimulus) such as palpitations with hyperventilation or lactation (unconditioned stimulus), which triggers panic/anxiety . Theories that are more recent also focused on conditioning processes.
