OCD and Other Anxiety Disorders
Despite the DSM-IV classification of OCD as an anxiety disorder, there are some important differences between OCD and other anxiety disorders. These include: age of onset (younger in OCD patients as compared with those with panic disorder), sex distribution (equal distribution of males and females among OCD patients as compared with greater prevalence among females of other anxiety disorders), responses to anxiogenic and anxiolytic compounds and selective responsivity of serotonergic medications.
