Medical Causes of Physical Anxiety Symptom

Stress affecting their life is a common complaint of every individual in today's world. The cause can be financial, medical and domestic depending on the individual. People everywhere are complaining of physical anxiety symptoms whatever the root of the problem is.

Physical symptoms of anxiety and stress may often be confused with other organic causes or disease due to the fact that stress has become so common. While anxiety and stress are closely related it should be remembered that stress is a precursor of several medical illnesses such as migraine headaches, gastric ulcers and even heart attacks.

Stress versus Organic

Until the condition has progressed to a more severe stage, symptoms are attributed to stress and ignored. Stress is commonly linked to excessive work at the office and affected people often complain of visual disturbances, headaches and sore eyes. The situation is not helped by reducing stress, but a simple eye test may often help since working long hours in front of the computer or in dim light also impairs visual acuity.

Weakness or a tingling sensation in their legs may be a complaint of individuals who spend hours standing at work such as surgeons, teachers and other professionals. Many wonder if this is just tired legs of a physical anxiety symptom. A simple visit to the doctor can answer this question. Breathlessness and chest pain can be due to stress, but on a more serious note the cause can actually be heart trouble.

It is extremely essential to have a regular check up with the family physician so that the cause of these so called physical anxiety symptoms can have a diagnosis. A sensory deficit can be caused by a diet lacking in Vitamin B12 which can have a straightforward solution. However, the palpitations and sweating of physical anxiety symptoms can be mimicked by a brain tumor called pheochromocytoma and this should be taken into consideration.

Other Clues to the Diagnosis of Anxiety

A proper history should be taken about the mental status of the individual when diagnosing people who are experiencing physical anxiety symptoms. Often at this time people with hard core anxiety problems will feel scared. They often want to hurry away from where ever they are since they worry about what others will think about them. Heavy doses of medicines are often taken by these individuals or they consume a lot of alcohol to get away from their feelings.

Often the trigger to the anxiety is the fear of having a fatal illness and this is important to remember. While eliminating the medical causes of physical anxiety symptoms every physician should keep this in mind so that the problem can be combated rather than aggravated.
